As we heal ourselves,
we heal the world.
-Murshida VA
Zikr
A word meaning, Remembrance.
An ancient form of embodied, devotional prayer, considered Divine Magic, practiced in India, North Africa, and the Middle East for thousands of years.
The Zakira (or Zakir)
Safely guides the group, with deeply practiced awareness, through higher and higher states of consciousness using various forms of breath, sound, words, rhythm, and movement.
In many lineages, Zikr is conducted exclusively in Arabic.
In the Universal Message Lineage, Zikr is conducted in English, Arabic, Hebrew, Sanskrit, Arameic, Japanese, Chinese, and many other languages in accordance with what the Zakir or Zakira receives for the community that evening.
In addition to invoking Holy Names and phrases of myriad world traditions, you may experience Zikr conducted with wordless sound and breath.
An embodied experience of the Sacredness, arising from and through the Lineages of All of Our Ancestors, can awaken our insight and deepen our compassion for ourselves, for one another, and for All of Life.

How to Prepare for the Zikr,
prepare to receive personal healing, and receive graciously while attending:
Eat a light meal so that you will be neither troubled by hunger nor weighted down by the food in your belly.
Take a nap during the day if you feel you may become sleepy during the ceremony.
Abstain from consuming alcohol the day of the Zikr.
Bathe or shower to clear your body of lingering impressions from the day.
When you bathe, rinse your mouth, clean your ears, and clear your nose and sinuses if possible.
Wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing and dress in layers.
Head coverings are not required.
Women and women-identified persons may bring a scarf to cover the head if you wish.
All genders may wear caps, turbans, wraps, or head coverings, if you feel called to do so.
Please choose what helps you to feel most at ease and comfortable in your own skin.
When you enter the space, leave your shoes near the door in the designated area.
If you are new to the HSMP Healing Community, someone will greet you and help you make introductions.
Refrain from social banter and light conversation.
Instead, make your way into the Zikr room, find a seat, make yourself comfortable, and wait for the Zakira or Zakir to begin the Invocation.
There is sometimes a Message Transmission or Class before the Zikr begins. When this happens it is customary to listen for the Message that is “for you”, that applies to your life.
After the Zikr there is often a brief time for Community Announcements & Requests. If you have an announcement to share during this time, please wait until the Zakir or Zakira calls on the group to share.
Rose tea, sweets, dates, and nuts are served after announcements.
This is the time for social gathering.
Sometimes Peter Levitov will lead music with members of the community late into the night. This happens spontaneously and is a gift.
There is never a fee for the Zikr. Rather, if the Zikr brings healing to your body, heart, and soul, it is customary to make a gratitude offering.
The suggested offering is $30.
If this is a hardship, please give what you can, and if you are unable to give financially and your health permits, you are always warmly welcome to approach the host and offer to volunteer to assist with setting up the room, closing the space, serving tea, or cleaning the kitchen.
Those who are able to give more, by giving more, support those who are unable to give.
This is one of the many ways in which we help one another.
